There are 2 Types of Men

It has been Ms. Fix-It weekend. My vacuum has been acting up, the power nozzel was not working properly. So I got out the manual and began to troubleshoot. I did everything I could but realized it was probably a wiring problem. I didn't want to tackle that for fear of making things worse. So it was off to the repair center (and two weeks without a vacuum). What I got out of this was I can change the belt when it is worn or the light buld when it is out. I also discovered when I got out my tool kit...

...and opened it, I discovered this...

Which comes back to there are two types of men, the type that cherish tools and put them away were they can find them and the other type who leave the tools where they used them soon to disappear. Which brings me to the men who have lived with me and since they couldn't find what the wanted they knew where they could. Thus I have started shopping for a new tool kit. While exploring I found this book and ordered it, of course I wanted to get free shipping so I ordered this too.

Round two of Ms. Fix-It was the upstairs toilet. Sometimes it would continue to run after flushing. I bought a new tank flap at Home Depot and replaced it. The jury is still out on whether it worked because it has only been a few hours and it was an intermittent problem.

On the knitting front, I have continued to work on the golf club head covers (one almost done), the caplet (on the second skein of 4) I will knit til I am out of yarn, a little bit of the candy bag and I cast on this plastic bag holder. I am sorry if you are not on ravelry yet because the previous links are to my projects there.
So far in 2008 I have been a better knitter and blogger my next task is to eat healthier and exercise!

I'm Out and I'm In

Well sort of in. If having most of you possessions excluding furniture in the garage is considered "in". Yesterday I brought the last load over from the old house. There are still a few things left in each car but that will be taken care of soon. Then to get a delux car wash. Saturday was moving day, the movers came at 8am and were done about 1. Just like my last move the furniture fit in and looked amazingly beautiful. I really didn't think I would be that lucky. The kids are very happy. Joy told me about a conversation they had while they were waiting for the movers. They discussed how much they liked the house. Michael did a great job organizing the rec room in the basement. He made a couple seating areas and a computer workstation. The girls organized their rooms and I still have a ways to go with the rest of the house. I have one more trip over to the old house to meet with the landlord and get my security deposit. Then I am truly out. On the knitting front, I have a lot of closet space in my bedroom so I have a designated knitting closet. I brought all my yarn and needles over before the movers so that It wouldn't get lost in the move. I was really excited when I was doing last minute packing and when I opened a box which held some divorce documents and lifted the box of papers out I found the knitting books I couldn't find after the last move. They are now my first books in my bookcase and they include; Elizabeth Zimmermann's Knitter's Almanac, EZ's Knitting Without Tears and Stitch n Bitch Nation. I am so excited! I have managed to get in a little knitting during the move and finished and started a new dishcloth for my mom and focused on the ribbing for the Turtleneck Tube Vest. I think I have about 3 more inches of ribbing left but I will know for sure after I try it on. Stitches Midwest is coming up soon and I need to think about what to look for there. I want to try new sock yarns and contunue knitting projects from Fitted Knits so I will have to look at the yarn requirements in the book.

Well, I am still very tired but not as exhausted as the past few days. I need to get back to unpacking but first I must knit a row of ribbing!

Cabled Scarf

I have been searching for an idea for the Lambs Pride Bulky I bought to make a scarf for the Red Scarf Project. A teacher at work was wearing this scarf It was a Gap scarf and she let me photograph it so that I could attempt to figure out the cable pattern (which should be simple). If it works I will use it for the red scarf.
I am still experimenting with images. The larger one I uploaded with typepad at 30%, the smaller one was the thumbnail option. The preview always looks a little different that the post, hopefully I'll like it.
Barnes and Noble's educators' appreciation week starts today with a 25% discount for teachers. I am hoping to pick up The Friday Night Knitting Club which Amy Artisan kindly sent me an excerpt. I will also look for Nicky Epstein's Knitted Embellishments. I would love to hear what everyone else thinks is a must have knitting book so I can check it out while I am there.
